1. Life should be a festival

She dreams of a world where people share and enjoy their own natural goods. She believes the uniqueness and singularity of each person that is constructed and performed by weaving their own life events. She wants to discover, grow and share something good in her.

2. So WHAT does she do?

She does creative research and artwork, driven by her curiosity. Her longstanding interest lays on the dynamic sense of life that occurs in relation to cognition and relationship. Currently double-majoring sociology and media art, she is doing her own performance in the soil of delicate appoach of sociology and open performativity of art.

3. Knowings on borders

Jeoung has explored her longtime interest through various ways from physics to literature (If you are curious about the story click here). From the age of 18 she began to connect her research with creating. She is now learning and creating with various digital media (including digital photography, video, code), and the understandings of the media environment that occur in the process turn back to her research as resources.

4. Knowledge in the living world

Her research starts from tiny feelings and intuitions in her daily life. As soon as they come up in her brain she quickly captures them into her record. They are then accumulated and developed in the meet of academic knowledge and culture.
Her recent interest has been greatly influenced by the feeling of affection in social media(, which is a significant issue in her generation), the experiences of interacting with digital media for her creative works, her hearing loss and the experiences of wearing hearing aids. She is interested to find out the new reality emerged from the mixture of online and offline, digital and nature.
The word 'knowledge' in her works signifies not only the hypotheses produced in the academic field but also the individual knowledge formed in trivial daily events. She believes knowledge does not exist to be understood elaborately. Rather knowledge means what provokes people and forms the way they act and feel.

5. Artwork as a network, Artwork as a community

When making her artwork, she treats it as building a network including the artist herself, the audiences and perceptible non-human elements of the artwork. It is a place where various beings are moving in their own context, and a community where they can feel and exert each other's power. She has been developing this aesthetic perspective while working on an essay since June 2022.
She thinks the absolute genre, size or interpretation given by herself as the author are not important in her work, but rather the elements can be scattered and rearranged in different ways depending on the situation and context. She anticipates the audiences and various beings involved in the work to see and utilize her work in their own manners and contexts.

6. Stance

Rather than being cynical or sentimental on social phenomena, she prefers to gaze with wit and affection the sense of life full of irony.

1. 삶은 무릇 축제여야 한다

저마다의 자연스런 좋음을 나누고 즐기는 축제 같은 삶을 꿈꿉니다. 시간 속에서 다양한 선택과 사건들을 엮어가며 축적해온 저마다의 고유한 좋음이 있다고 믿습니다. 저는 제가 할 수 있는 좋은 것들을 발굴하고 길러 다른 사람들과 나누고자 합니다.

2. 그래서 뭘 하나요?

호기심과 표현욕을 기반으로 창의적인 리서치와 창작을 합니다. 인지와 관계 속에서 발생하는 역동적인 삶의 감각을 오랜 관심으로 두고 작업해오고 있습니다. 현재 사회학과 미디어아트를 복수전공하며, 이해에 접근하는 사회학의 정교하고 섬세한 태도, 미술의 자유로운 수행성 속에서 저만의 퍼포먼스를 하고 있습니다.

3. 경계적 앎

저는 물리학, 뇌인지과학, 문학, 철학 등을 거치며 저의 오랜 관심사를 탐구해왔습니다 (이 이야기가 궁금하다면 여기를 클릭). 대학에 입학한 후 탐구를 본격적으로 창작과 연결시키기 시작했습니다. 현재 창작을 위해 디지털 사진, 영상, 코드 등 다양한 디지털 매체를 다루고 있으며, 그 과정에서 발생하는 매체적 환경에 대한 이해는 다시 탐구의 중요한 자원이 되고 있습니다.

4. 생활세계의 지식

저의 작업은 일상에서 느낀 작은 것들에서 시작해 새로운 인지, 새로운 가능성에 도달하는 방식을 추구합니다. 일상의 작은 직관이 휘발되기 전에 재빨리 기록하고, 그를 여러 이론들과 문화적 감수성들을 거쳐 발전시킵니다. 최근 몇 년간 저의 주요한 관심사는 (저의 세대에서 중요한 문제이기도 한) 소셜 미디어에서의 애착 경험, 디지털 기기를 창작에 활용하면서 발생한 경험, 청력 손실과 그를 위한 디지털 보청기를 착용하면서 발생한 경험들에서 영향을 받았습니다. 저는 온라인과 오프라인, 디지털과 자연이 뒤섞인 동시대 현실이 만들어내는 새로운 리얼리티에 관심을 두고 있습니다.
저의 작업에서 '지식'은 학문장 academic field에서 생산된 가설들뿐 아니라 개개인의 맥락에서 형성된 앎들까지 포괄하는 단어입니다. 지식은 정교하게 이해되기 위해 존재하는 것이 아니며, 생활세계에서 사람들을 실질적으로 움직이는 것으로 의미를 가집니다.

5. 작업이라는 생태계

저는 작업을 작가, 관객뿐 아니라 작업을 구성하는 여러 비인간 존재들이 함께 만들어가는 생태계로 볼 수 있다고 생각합니다. 작업은 여러 감각요소들이 뭉쳐진 감각다발 네트워크이자, 여러 존재들이 저마다의 맥락에서 약동하고 있는 장이며, 서로의 힘을 느끼고 발휘할 수 있는 공동체이기도 합니다. 2022년 6월부터 이러한 미학적 관점을 발전시키면서 에세이로 풀어 쓰고 있습니다.
저는 어떤 감각다발들과 연결 경험의 네트워크를 만들지를 고민하며 작업을 합니다. 제 작업에서는 작가인 저에 의해 정의된 절대적인 장르나 사이즈, 해석이 중요하지 않으며, 오히려 작업의 요소들이 상황과 맥락에 따라 흩어지고 다르게 재배치될 수 있다고 봅니다. 관객을 비롯해 작업과 연루된 다양한 존재들이 각자의 맥락에 맞게 제 작업을 보고 이용하면 좋겠다고 생각합니다.

6. 스탠스

단편적인 현상에 대한 비판 또는 냉소, 감상적인 태도보다 아이러니 가득한 생의 감각을 위트와 함께 응시하는 것을 좋아합니다.
